Final Thoughts
Overall I am happy with the final result of my model. Throughout this moduel I have both learned new skills and improved upon the ones I already had.
I am very happy with how comfortable I have become with ZBrush and the production pipeline of creating a character during the module. I have improved on everything from sculpting skill, to retopology, to texturing. Using and experimenting new methods to achive things such as creating low to high poly maps and hair cards has not only teached me new valuable skills, but also improved on my on my methods for making characters in the future. I have also improved on my use of Substance Painter to make more realistic skin textures through layers of different tones and patterns. One of the most important things I learned for sculpting human characters during this module is the anatomy of the human head and how significant minor changes in size and depth can change a characters overall look. Muscle and bone structure play a huge role in the way the forms of the face are naturally made.
When it comes to hair textures and cards, I still have a lot to learn and improve upon. The use of Mayas XGen features helped me a lot in the visual part of how I wanted the hair to look and I used this method to create my hair cards, yet this needed some tweaks. I believe the hair of my character was the weakest part of my model and this is something I will look into and improve more in my next sculpts. The use of XGen for game ready hair is not the easiest due to the complexity of the tool, yet with some tweaks, it was a great start for giving me base for the hair. For the smaller hair such as that of the brows, I was extremely happy with the result, using both texturing skills with hand placed cards to hive the hair some volume when looking from the side. I would say hair is my biggest weakness of the character and could use the most improvement overall, though I had learned a lot about its creation through the module.
In the future I would take a lot more time in creating my character, improving a lot more on my knowledge of anatomy, as well as, texture and hair quality. To further my skills in the future, I wish to also create body anatomy and experimenting with the creation of clothing. I will also delve into creature sculpting taking in mind anatomy of animals further improving on my anatomy knowledge.
