Development - Blockout
Starting my blockout, I began with a base shape to work with. Though not perfect at this point, this allowed me to get a better understanding of the base anatomy of both the head and the way it would rest on the neck and shoulders. Using the move tool here was essential for making edits to the overall shape very quickly.
After my base shape was looking good, I began to add details that would add to the shape, especially around the area of the mouth and cheeks as this changed a lot and gave the character realistic features making them look a lot more complete in terms of shape.
At this point in the sculp, I was very happy with the look of the character. They looked aged and somewhat weathered which it what I was looking for as this character was based off a viking who would have gone through a lot of labour and brutish tasks throughout his life. I had this in my head, as well as constantly looking through my references throughout the development of the sculpt, in order to keep the image of what I wanted for the character.
